Christopher Columbus Greer was born on 4 Mar 1832, in that portion of the Cherokee land in Alabama that would soon become Chambers Co. His school years were spent in Washington Co, TX, and he came of age in Port Sullivan, Milam Co, TX. It is likely that, when he was not working at his father's sawmill, he helped defend his community from hostile Indians as a volunteer in the militia service that came to be known as the Texas Rangers. Some researchers have suggested that he married Virginia Wilkins, but this is unsubstantiated. It was in Milam Co. that he died, apparently childless, on 8 Feb 1854 of pneumonia contracted while deer hunting a week earlier. He was buried along the banks of Little River.
