Three of NHG's sons married three daughters of James Addison Lane from whom a substantial portion of NHG's descendants can also trace their descent. This seems so significant for our Greer heritage that I am creating this special area of The Greer Way West to display information about the Lane ancestry.
RECENT DISCOVERY: It now appears that Matilda Susan Willson was the second wife of James A Lane. To learn more, click here.
Before you begin exploring the ancestry, there are some important considerations to mention.
1) To keep files to a manageable size so your download time will not be excessive, only eight generations have been posted online. The generations will likely be expanded in the future, but for now only this much will be available.
2) The ancestral information is contained in five files:
3) If the Internet and the host computer for The Greer Way West are both functioning well, the following approximations of speed should be fairly accurate.
4) Because the Pedigrees file is about half a megabyte in size, you will need to be patient as it downloads. If you have a broadband connection, this should only take a few seconds. But if you have a dial-up connection, it will take more like a minute to complete. During the initial download, your screen will display information on "Anne" not James Addison Lane. However, once the download is done, the primary delay is over and the screen should display information for "James Addison LANE". Also for those with dial-up, the Index file should initially take about 5 seconds to download and the Notes file over twice that.
5) The primary information is in the Pedigrees file and it is presented in the order shown below. Unless there are very few facts to list, you will likely need to scroll down to see all of the person' information:
6) Although much research has been done to produce this ancestral information for James Addison Lane, errors or omissions are almost inevitable. To comment on or question any of this information, please email the editor at:
7) Much of the information about the ancestry of James Addison Lane was meticulously researched by Dr. John Hugh Malone Jr. and appeared in his Ancestral History of the Lanes of Jasper County, Georgia. Self-published, Concord, NC, Fall 2003. A great debt of gratitude is owed Dr. Malone.
